Jean Grae – Gotham Down: cycle 1: Love In Infinity (Lo-Fi) (Album Stream)

In the late 2000s, Jean Grae’s musical output slowed to a halt with her signing to Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith/Warner Bros. deal. In the last three years however, the New York Underground Hip-Hop mainstay has partnered with DJ Drama for mixtapes, and now surprise-attacks us with an EP. Gotham Down is an ill concept for the founding member of Natural Resource, who reportedly made her Attack Of The Attacking Things for $18, despite involvement from Masta Ace and Company Flow’s Mr. Len.

This is a callback to those days. Jeanie’s whimsical narratives, appreciated over-shares, and homogenous blend of humor and razor-sharp candor make this an awesome testament to self-released music in 2013. Do like Diddy, and just press play.
