The Drama King Is About Keeping New York Hip-Hop Unified On The Rise Of A City (Mixtape)

A decade ago, DJ Kay Slay was a wager of war. The Mixtape Awards winner took on the Drama King persona in the ’90s, and was not above strong arm tactics on tapes, on radio, and in the streets to reign supreme in the highly-competitive culture of exclusives and style-jackers. In 2014 though, the graffiti-sensation-turned top DJ and Straight Stuntin’ magazine publisher is all about unification.

A devout veteran of New York City Hip-Hop, Kay Slay’s new The Rise Of A City mixtape brought 50 Cent and Fat Joe to a record together, 10 years after a messy beef began, tearing apart fans, streets, and other artists associated with each. Also on this tape is Slay’s bonding of two exiled G-Unit members, Young Buck and Game, who over the years, took aim at each other, even outside of the 50 conflict(s).

Members of Wu-Tang Clan, M.O.P., Mobb Deep, Capone-N-Noreaga, Dipset, and The LOX also appear here, alongside guys like Maino, Papoose, Troy Ave, and A-Mafia. New York City is strong in Kay Slay’s heart, and on his latest 15-track freebie.
