In the last year of his life, J Dilla was getting the mainstream recognition he so deeply deserved. Donuts dropped. He was making thumpers for Common, who was his roommate in L.A. at the time. Dilla deftly balanced major label acceptance with underground royalty, and things seemed to be on the upward.

Sadly, J Dilla did not live to see his impact. Years after his death, he has been immortalized by fans who celebrate his catalog, who police the misuse of his instrumentals, and who gather in venues across the globe to honor Jay Dee.

J. Rocc, founder of the legendary Beat Junkies, was one such devoted fan of Jay Dee. Over the years 2006-2009, he assembled a 4 volume mix of Dilla material, called Thank You Jay Dee, that is as definitive a collection as any ever compiled. It contains more than 120 rarities, remixes, album tracks and other gems crafted by Dilla. On such a significant birthday, we believed it was worthwhile to pull this out to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Hip-Hop’s all-time greats. You can stream Acts 1-3 and download all 4 below.
