Houston is one of those Hip-Hop scenes for which not every Head knows the whole history. While New York, the Bay, and L.A. have legacies that are commonly covered in documentaries, books, and television specials, H-Town is its own animal. Beyond the Geto Boys and Rap-A-Lot Records, there’s a lot to know.

Author Lance Scott Walker compiled a six-hour mix, Houston Rap Tapes, that actively profiles the underground culture from Houston. From the ’90s and 2000s, this incredibly-comprehensive mix will inevitably expose you to some new things:
