Mr. Flash, an artist signed to the increasingly recognized Ed Banger Records, is a French DJ/producer. Just like some choice moments from the album Kanye West recorded in France, Flash re-popularizes “chipmunk soul,” the pitch-altered vocal sampling style made mainstream by RZA, ‘Ye, and Just Blaze.

“Number One” employs one such beat, and then brings in some particularly throwback-minded lyricists in Action Bronson, Oh No, and celebrated Memphis MC Cities Aviv. The song sounds out of time, while each guest vocalist makes great use of their time, kicking hard bars.
