Tariq Trotter Meets Harry Potter, As Black Thought Has Latenight TV Fun (Video)

The Roots are so much more than a “house band” for “The Tonight Show.” The Philadelphia crew, long-labeled as one of host Jimmy Fallon’s favorite acts, has been interwoven into the show’s nightly sketches, comedy, and a heavy hand in collaborating with various musical guests.

At the request of one viewer who shot in an email, Black Thought kicks a one-minute rap about Harry Potter. Whether Tariq Trotter is a true fan of the book-turned-film series is unknown, but if he isn’t, he has damn good writers—and already certified writing skills. This rap works, and hopefully makes a few of the mega-millions of Harry Potter Heads take a much-needed interest in The Roots’ new LP, …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin, which deserves far more scans and accolades.

Thought at work!
