Bumpy Knuckles & Audible Doctor Unleash The Beast (Audio)

Brown Bag AllStars’ Audible Doctor once cut his teeth working at Tuff City Records, the legendary label responsible for Queen Latifah, 45 King, Spoonie Gee, and others. That said, the Wisconsin native appreciates his history. One such figure, who continues to write his own legend is Freddie Foxxx, more modernly known as Bumpy Knuckles. Twenty-five years ago, Foxxx released his debut album on MCA Records. After lengthy tenures on a plethora of labels, Fred re-emerged as Bumpy Knuckles, an industry bullying MC/producer with stories to tell, and fists of fury (on and off the mic).

Audible Doctor has similarly amassed a career outside the lines of a major label system. Doc has since built some cool catalog, ranging from Joell Ortiz to Ghostface Killah to Consequence. But he raps too—and on “The Beast,” the ’80s icon and the 2000s hopeful share the struggle, the story, and the concept expertly on a soulful beat:
