Time Travel Back To 1990 In This Live Recording Of Kid Capri Rockin’ A NYC Party (Audio)

As Ambrosia For Heads looks to our readers to determine the GOAT MC, it’s indisputable that Kid Capri just might be a GOAT DJ. Since the 1980s, the Bronx, New Yorker became the high priest of mixtapes, with the gift of blending the staples of Hip-Hop with fresh releases, R&B, and elementary break-beats.

In the ’90s, Kid Capri moved into a post at “Def Comedy Jam,” became an affiliate of the Diggin’ In The Crates crew, and produced records for Boogie Down Productions, Big L, Grand Puba, and others. During this, Capri toured with Puff Daddy, Jay Z, and others.

For Medium’s Cuepoint, cassette tape archivist Stretch Armstrong liberated this 1990 recording of Kid Capri at New York City’s The Building club. Here, in very good quality, you’ll hear Cap’ spin records for Special Ed, X-Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Biz Markie, Craig G, James Brown, 45 King, Big Daddy Kane, and lots more.

You could put this mix on at a club in 2014, and bodies would still be movin’. The bygone NYC club era comes back thanks to the Stretch Army.

Props to Grand Good for hippin’ AFH.
