Red Pill Speaks From His Heart On Race & Differences On An Apollo Brown Groove (Audio)

Red Pill has been one of the budding forces at Tucson, Arizona-based Mello Music Group. A member of Ugly Heroes with Verbal Kent and Apollo Brown, the Lansing, Michigan native announced this young week that he has signed a multi-album deal with the label that’s been a home/outpost for Oddisee, O.C., Planet Asia, and of course, Apollo.

To kick things off, Red Pill (a nod to The Matrix) releases “All Of Us.” The soulful track shares some difficult American history, chronicling lies and racism, from the perspective of an MC who’s White. The message of the cut, produced by his Ugly Heroes partner, is love and harmony. It’s hardly hoaky, and Red Pill boldly speaks on some things that probably need to be said across the spectrum of ethnicity, races, and faces, if we are to be better human beings. In other words, Red Pill has somethin’ to say, just hours into his new deal…

If Eric Garner looked like me, he would’ve never been killed
Never be a grand jury sorting evidence till
A prosecutor swaying minds busy pressing his will
Upon the biased minds of racists who remember that deal
Back when plantation owners gave fake ownership to white folks
And human nature’s ugliness got balanced on that tight rope
Set up a system for instilling the hate
The consequences of a hatred we’re still feeling today…
