On their two albums, Run The Jewels are arrogant, violent, uncompromising, and domineering. Oh yeah, they’re thoughtful, informed, and socially responsible too. But part of what makes this group great is that, they have no pressure, concern, or fear to be anything other than themselves.

R.T.J. can be gentle, sensitive, and friendly too—which most fans of El-P and Killer Mike already know. However, this Run The Jewels segment of Rookie’s “Ask A Grown Man” shows the tandem in a light like you’ve never seen. Taking on questions submitted by fans—largely teenage women, Mike and Jamie reply on video. These may be the kind of questions you read in a Seventeen or Teen Cosmo, but it’s wild to see two hardcore MCs take them on.

From first kisses to social marginalization, this is some deep wisdom that comes from other siblings, parents (and Mike is one), and well—O.G.’s. While Run The Jewels, from stage performances, to photo shoots, to lyrics can be incredibly sarcastic, this is truly heartfelt—and all the more reason why these artists are just so damn captivating in these times.
