Snoop Dogg Signs With Pharrell, Again, For An Album Called…Bush

UPDATE: Following October 2014’s news that Snoop and Pharrell were back in business together (read below), some details have emerged on the forthcoming album. To be titled Bush, is due in March, 2015. Snoop reportedly confirmed this last night (January 7) at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Some heavy hitters are said to be featured on the album, including Stevie Wonder and Charlie Wilson, who has worked with Snoop and Pharrell before.

“Peaches N Cream,” touted as the first single, is said to be coming any day now. Given what 112 used the same title for, and Snoop and executive producer Pharrell’s own title, could there be a theme to this one—especially since Tha Doggfather likes his thematic albums these days and all?

People forever seem to associate Snoop Dogg’s tenure with Dr. Dre (two solo albums at Death Row Records between 1992 and 1997) and his years with Master P (three solo albums with No Limit Records between 1998 and 2000). However, Heads often forget that 2004’s R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta) was a joint-venture with Pharrell Williams’ Star Trak Records.

The 20-track LP featuring hit single “Drop It Like It’s Hot” boasted involvement from 50 Cent, Nelly, Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz, and Justin Timberlake, in addition to production from Pharrell, Hi-Tek, Alchemist, Sha Money XL, Soopafly, and others.

Five albums later, and Snoop’s albums have not reached platinum since. So after some unreleased material recently surfaced, it comes as little surprise that Tha Doggfather has inked with Skateboard P’s newest platform, i am OTHER Records. The deal brings Snoop to Columbia, after a career closely associated with the Interscope/Geffen/A&M conglomerate, as well as the Priority/Capitol/EMI distribution family. Aside from 2013’s “Snoop Lion” dabbling with VICE/RCA, this marks Snoop’s first true signing to an East Coast major label. Billboard broke the news today (October 17), fresh after Snoop’s hosting of the 2014 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

Think Snoop can grab another platinum LP with the ageless god of reinvention?
