Some Unreleased Vic Mensa Surfaces on the Heels of His SNL Debut (Audio)

Vic Mensa’s having quite a week. With the world television stage on “SNL40” (well, those not watching the NBA All-Star Game), Mensa joined Sia and Kanye West for a highly-stylized, deeply choreographed performance of “Wolves.”

With folks running to their social media to ask more about the versatile MC/singer with the blonde highlights, it’s a great space for fresh music. Although not new, Blended Babies (Asher Roth, Chance The Rapper, Sir Michael Rocks) laced up “Shakedown ’99.” New or not, the moment is textbook Vic Mensa. That’s not to say it’s mundane in the least. Quite the contrary, the melodic, versatile moment shows off the singer, the rapper, and the thinker from the Chicago avenues.

Vic Mensa Blonde

The Kids These Days era of Vic comes back into life in this sultry, thoughtful vibe music. Feel-good to the core, this song is incredibly moving at a time when everybody from Rihanna to J. Cole to Kendrick Lamar to Coldplay are winning with tones in this wheelhouse.

Is the mainstream ready for Mensa, or what? Does this record feel like 1999?
