Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise Is #1 On The Charts. The Samples Played A Role (Mix)

More than five years in the making, Big Sean grabbed #1 album honors this past week with his third studio LP, Dark Sky Paradise. The G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam Records star is bidding for a permanent place at Rap’s upper echelon, and this album—boasting production from Kanye West, DJ Mustard, Mike WiLL Made It, and DJ Dahi has not only commercial milestones, but critical acclaim.

The Detroit, Michigan MC is making new fans. Part of that may come from the LP’s far-reaching samples and deft production to complement the lyrical charms and lyrical panache. Like the G.O.O.D. glory days, this #1 was unafraid to share some royalties with other writers, composers, and performers.

Among those sampled includes Beyonce, Guy, D.J. Rogers, Janet Jackson, (unofficial sample hall of famers) Tom Scott & The L.A. Express even 1978 hit “How Much I Feel” by…Ambrosia. From known hits to deep cuts, there’s much to enjoy, and thanks to Gianni Lee & MikeBlud, the samples groove right beside the album in their own mix:
