Happy Birthday Common. Celebrate with This Amazing Mixtape of Remixes (Audio)

Today (March 13), Common turns 43 years old. For nearly 25 of those years, the Chicago, Illinois MC, actor, and activist has kept Heads noddin’. 2015 appears to be the biggest professional calendar of Common’s life, only in the first quarter. The onetime Relativity Records breakout, and former Source “Unsigned Hype” artist has earned an Oscar Award and a Golden Globe, to join his Grammy in the trophy case.

In the last 15 years, Common’s career has gone into overdrive. From Top 50 mainstream moments like the J Dilla-produced “The Light” to a Top 10 assist alongside then-girlfriend Erykah Badu on “Love Of My Life,” to his lone #1 album in 2007’s Finding Forever, things have gotten great for the MC who once had “nuthin’ to do.”

Before he was friends with Oprah, appearing on “The Daily Show,” and starring in big budget films and television shows, Common was just a great MC, making albums that still sound amazing.

1994’s Resurrection, Common’s sophomore album may be the most critical link in his career. Two years removed from a lukewarm debut, Can I Borrow A Dollar?, it was the 22 year-old’s sophomore return, with No I.D. (no longer known as Immenslope), and Ynot that would break the Top 200, and despite a mere 3.5 mics from The Source, go on to become a purist Hip-Hop classic. Two charting singles, some potent Large Professor remixes, and Relativity knew they had an MC worth the investment. Eight albums later, and Common has stayed the course and rivaled Will Smith, Ice-T, and Tupac Shakur in taking his talents to the top of other creative arts.

Here’s an amazing mixtape by DJ Heavy Ammunition featuring remixes of several Common classics over the course of his entire career. You can stream and download Common S.T.O.R.Y. (Stories Told Over Remixed Years) below.
