Waka Flocka Flame Cancels University Of Oklahoma Show Following Racist Videos

Sometimes money doesn’t matter. Following videos surfacing of some fraternity members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at University of Oklahoma chanting about the brotherhood’s exclusion of Blacks and using racial slurs, Waka Flocka Flame does not want money from OSU in his hands. The Brick Squad Monopoly front man announced, via Instagram, that he is canceling an upcoming show at the Norman, Oklahoma campus. “Racism is something that I will not tolerate,” wrote the onetime Warner Bros. Records star.

Waka wrote, via IG, “SMFH.. I know for a fact the whole school and SAE don’t agree with those kids actions so know that I’m not madd [sic] at the whole #SAE just those disgusting kids!!!!!! #WFF We can’t change history but we damn sure can create our own future #DeathToRacism”

Waka poignantly added in a social post that his fan base includes all races, in a career that was built upon the support of Black people, and other audiences of color:

The chants and yelling of some of the SAE members also made light of lynchings. The SAE fraternity has since been closed.

Waka’s show was planned for April. At this time, it is unclear if he was performing for SAE or a school function.

Are the principles of Hip-Hop’s “peace, love, unity, and having fun” popping up in unlikely—but inspiring places?
