Common & John Legend Are Friends…But Not in This Lip Sync Battle (Video)

Spike TV has launched a new show called Lip Sync Battle that is hosted by none other than LL Cool J. As the title suggests, the show pits contestants against one another in epic fake verbal jousts. In its premiere episode, oft-collaborators and joint Grammy/Oscar winners Common and John Legend severed their partnership, temporarily, in order to compete with one another.

In a “he’s the singer, I’m the rapper” role reversal, Common chose the Jackson 5’s classic “I Want You Back” and John Legend opted for Juvenile’s “Slow Motion,” in the first half of the competition. Common’s performance came complete with patented J5 choreography and Legend wholly committed to some of the raunchier lines in Juvie’s early 00s favorite. But, that was just the beginning. The real action came during the second half of the battle when Common performed Lionel Richie’s timeless “All Night Long” and Legend took on MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This.” Each stepped it up several notches with full costumes. Who do you think took this one? Check out the videos.
