Flying Lotus Interviews Kendrick Lamar and Premieres Unreleased Verse (Audio)

Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar have collaborated on a number of projects. Last year, Kendrick lent his staccato jazz vocals to “Never Catch Me” from the producer’s You’re Dead LP, and K. Dot tapped FlyLo to produce “Wesley’s Theory,” the first song on Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly album. The two are also said to have spent a significant amount of time in the studio over the last year, with other collaborations in the vault.

Flying Lotus is a regular participant in BBC Radio 1’s Residency podcast series and, during his most recent appearance, the eclectic producer dedicated the segment to Kendrick’s TPAB LP. For part of the segment, FlyLo interviewed Kendrick in a style similar to the interview Kendrick “conducted” with Tupac on “Mortal Man,” to close the album. As a melodic jazz mix continued in the background, Flying Lotus inquired about the dreams, fears, and influences behind Kendrick’s album. Just as he helped introduce the new K.Dot revolution with his production of “Wesley’s Theory,” he lends a hand in sparking their creative synergy once more as he begins the interview with “I’ve always wanted to know, what do you dream about?”

Listen as Kendrick answers that and much more and be sure to stay tuned to the end when FlyLo premieres the full verse Kendrick recorded for the producer’s song entitled “Eyes Above.”
