Tech N9ne Opens Up About Mother’s Passing, Confirms Latest Eminem Collabo (Video)

Tech N9ne is gearing up to release his 15th album, Special Effects on May 4, 2015. To promote the album, he stopped by Sway In The Morning to give some details behind it, including guest appearances and the content in the music.

They start the interview off by talking about Tech’s longevity, and how he keeps coming up with new things to say after 15 albums. This leads into the biggest change in Tech’s personal life: his mother passing away last year. He tearfully talks about her influence on him, dedicating the new album to her and touches on the idea of her being a guardian angel.

They then get into guest features on the new album, and Tech N9ne talks about landing a guest feature from Eminem, who he had wanted to work with ever since they did “The Anthem” for Sway & Tech in 1999 (4:20). The conversation veers off a bit as Tech N9ne talks about letting loose all of his emotions on the first Special Effects single, “Aw Yeah? (interVENTion)” (5:35) and his family turning on him after he was featured in Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Kings list (7:20).

After explaining the misconceptions his family has about his money situation, Tech ties this to a Special Effects track called “On The Bible” featuring T.I. and Zuse, an example of him bringing his frustrations into his music (9:30). Sway then backs up at 11:20 and goes back to the fact that Eminem is featured on the new album, and Tech gives the details saying Marshall Mathers will appear with Krizz Kaliko on “Speedom (Worldwide Choppers 2),” which will be released on April 20. Heads may remember Tech got high profile guest appearances from Busta Rhymes, Twista, Yelawolf and others on the original “Worldwide Choppers.”

The interview wraps up after Tech drops some more names that will be featured on Special Effects, including Lil Wayne, Yo Gotti, Corey Taylor and Hopsin, before Sway gives some kind words in regards to Tech mourning his mother’s passing. Check out the full interview below:
