A$AP Rocky Joins the Growing List of MCs Singing…And He Sounds Amazing (Video)

From the beginning, A$AP Rocky has been an artist who is unafraid to go against the grain and be experimental. As an MC from Harlem, New York, Rocky deviated from the sounds of predecessors like Ma$e and Jim Jones, and favored a sound that was more chopped and screwed than Harlem shake. He even veered into EDM, with his party-starter “Wild For the Night” with Skrillex. The A$AP Mob leader also has been consistently risque in his visuals, often making videos that aligned with a lifestyle filled with haze…

As he prepares for the release of his sophomore major label album, At.Long.Last.A$AP (6/2), Rocky expands his repertoire even further, adding singing to his presentation. However, it feels neither forced nor contrived. Rather, he seems right at home in a psychedelic groove colored by a wavy guitar and deep electro keys. Rocky’s vocals also are reminiscent of Miguel, with whom he recently collaborated.

The song, titled “LSD,” details a dreamy and “enhanced” encounter between Rocky and a woman who is the object of his desire. The accompanying visuals are equally trippy and recall similar videos by Schoolboy Q. Midway through, he interrupts the vibe and turns it upside down (litearlly) with a brief rap, but quickly returns to the sound with which he started.
