Travel Back To A Funkmaster Flex Playlist With ONYX, Redman & Kool G Rap (Mix)

Even before he was dropping bombs, Funkmaster Flex was explosive to airwaves. On May 7, 1993 the DJ assisted the newly-launched HOT 97 set the weekends off proper. The Bronx, New York mixmaster began an 11pm-2am “Friday Night Street Jam” show on 97.1 FM, bringing the energy of the streets and the clubs to tri-state sound-waves.

Years before his own 60 Minutes Of Funk series, the onetime Chuck Chillout protege gets incredibly busy playing rowdy records of the day. ONYX, Redman, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, Brand Nubian, The Pharcyde, Flavor Unit, House Of Pain, and Double XX Posse, among so many others. Heads can also hear Angie Martinez check in.

DJ Eclipse’s incredible tape-deck captured the greatness, as the Non-Phixion member continues to make our Thursdays (and beyond) better by sharing some of Rap radio’s finest moments with the world. As for Flex, one of the innovators of radio as we know it continues to heat up nights and weekends, no matter the era.
