Why Did Nas Sign Dave East? Because He’s Hungry. Just Listen (Video)

Every once in a while, you can hear the hunger in an MC’s voice. Whether it’s untempered desire for success or the unabashed quest for the throne, there’s an edge that comes out, and it’s palpable. It was audible in Kendrick Lamar’s career-shifting “Control” verse. It manifested in King Los’ Sway in the Morning freestyle. And, it seems to be in nearly every one of Chris Rivers’ bars.

Dave East is the latest to put that hunger on display and he feasts on Beanie Sigel and Jay Z’s “It’s On.” Even though Sigel and Jay were well-established in their careers at that point, something in the D. Dot-produced track brought out the ferocity in those two grizzled veterans. Seemingly following in their footsteps, on “Once Again It’s On,” East brings a performance that could easily stand side by side with the verses on the original.

The Harlem MC is making it clear he’s one to watch. Check out the video.
