DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Protege Dayne Jordan is a True Storytelling MC (Album Stream)

Hailing from Philadelphia, the same city that birthed Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Dayne Jordan has been accumulating some serious knowledge from veterans in the game. With Jeff as his mentor, Jordan has been finessing the skills he’s been accruing since 2009, when he released his debut project, Sand and Foam (under the name Dosage). A year before, he happened to meet Lupe Fiasco, who eventually brought him on the road for his Steppin Lasers Tour. In 2012, with a name change and an alliance with Jeff, Jordan began formulating the steps to his best project to date. With a highly respected co-sign from Jazzy Jeff (the legendary DJ and producer played integral roles in the early careers of Oddisee, Kev Brown, and was an early supporter of Eminem’s), Jordan has released his latest project and it sounds like the young spitter is ready to take it all the way.

For more than a year, he and Jeff have been in the studio, working on Memoirs of Dayne Jordan, which dropped earlier today (July 21). The release follows the video for “In Progress,” a nearly 7-minute monster of a mini-biography combined with moving, attention-grabbing lyrics and imagery that tells a story.  Since then, he released “Hustlers,” an engaging tale of his young-adult years, and the kid spits. Memoirs, unsurprisingly, takes a similarly biographical approach, tracing Jordan’s life from his own birth to that of his child. Produced entirely by Jazzy Jeff, the album may not be his first, but it is clear the young man has arrived. Listen.
