If Drake Is Responding To Meek Mill, It’s In This Charged Up Song (Audio)

In a week that has been anything but conventional, Drake has remained un-phased. The multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning MC/singer was accused of using writers by onetime friend/collaborator Meek Mill in a late-night social media barrage on July 21. In the days that followed, Funkmaster Flex released a “10 Bandz” reference track by an Atlanta, Georgia OVO affiliate named Quentin Miller, who Meek also mentioned by name. Miller, who has credits on If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, spoke out and clarified his relationship with Drake—but would not say specifically if he wrote elements of or all of “R.I.C.O.,” the latest Meek and Drake collaboration, appearing on Mill’s #1 album, Dreams Worth More Than Money.

On social media and in interviews (or lack thereof), Drake has not been talking. If there is a response, “Charged Up,” one of several songs the Cash Money Records superstar premiered on OVO Sound Radio, is addressing it all.

Here are some lyrical highlight bars from the sparse, Noah “40” Shebib-produced track:

All y’all stare in my face in hopes you could be the replacement / Niggas snitching on us without no interrogation / I stay silent cause we at war and I’m very patient,” then “I’m honored that you think this is staged / I’m flattered man, in fact, I’m amazed / The perfect start to the summer, man this shit is a doozy / This shit the twist in the movie but don’t jump to conclusions,” and “Done doing favors for people / ‘Cause it ain’t like I need the money I make off a feature / I see you niggas having trouble going gold / Turning into some so and so’s that no one knows / But so it go…

Drake not seem to address Rick Ross, or an alleged deleted tweet that favored him, in lieu of the Maybach Music Group MC, who initiated the tension. Rather, Drake offered a home to his nameless foe, at OVO.

Initial speculation appeared that Meek’s issues with Drake are somehow related to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania MC’s girlfriend, Nicki Minaj. In the tweets, Nicki–who has worked with Drake and been a label-mate and friend for more than five years, was tied in. Notably, in “Charged Up,” there are the following lines:

Rumor has it, there’s something that only I know / Rumor has it, I steer this shit with my eyes closed / Rumor has it, I either fucked her or I never could / But rumor has it, hasn’t done you niggas any good,” as well as “No woman ever had me star struck / Or was able to tell me to get my bars up / I’m charged up.

So what does Meek think about all this?

At present, “beef” may not be the word. So within this rift, what do you think is the motive? As Meek starts loading his own cannons, do you think Drake’s reply put the issues and week that was in its place?
