Jay Rock Releases the Visual For His Wu-Tang-esque 90059 Album Title Track (Video)

TDE continues its run of cinematic videos. After releasing the short films for Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” and Jay Rock’s “Money Trees Deuce,” among others, they follow up with another clip for the label’s OG, with the title track to Rock’s forthcoming 90059 album. The track sounds much more like vintage Wu-Tang Clan than much of Jay Rock’s previous Cali-oriented material. The hook is eerily reminiscent of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and the production sounds more like it was cooked up by the RZA than the soulful sounds of regular TDE beatmakers like Sounwave, THC and Terrace Martin.

Similarly to the visual for “Alright,” the video for “90059” is comprised of two soundtracks. The first part is a funky ditty performed by TDE’s first lady, SZA, and after, Rock comes in with his gritty guide to survival in the hood. The visual supports the frenetic delivery with a narrative of paranoia and escapism, as Rock is transported from an institution, by SZA, in a straight-jacket and restraining mask, and on the run from the police. Given the clip’s abrupt ending, it would not be surprising if there was a part two in the making.
