Stones Throw Drops Guilty Simpson’s Album Early, With A Rock-Infused Single (Audio)

Earlier today (August 12), Stones Throw Records announced it was releasing the latest album from Guilty Simpson nearly a month early. Detroit’s Son will be universally available on September 11, but Heads can purchase it right now by visiting the label’s website. Produced entirely by Australian producer Katalyst, the album features guest appearances from longtime collaborators and fellow Motor City natives Elzhi and Phat Kat as well as Cysion, Fat Ray, and Spacek. The 17-track LP is Guilt’s third solo effort and the first since the Madlib-produced O.J. Simpson, which dropped in 2010. In the years since then, he has released collaboration projects with Apollo Brown, Small Professor, Oh No, and Random Axe, the trio he founded with Black Milk and the late Sean Price.

Fans can purchase Detroit’s Son on vinyl, as a CD, or as a downloadable MP3 album. All three options include previews of the entire track listing, but only the vinyl option comes with a bonus track, “Liquor.” However, you can hear the lead single, “Fractured,” in its entirety right here.
