Jay Rock Retraces His Watts Roots In A 90059 Mini-Documentary (Video)

Jay Rock’s sophomore album 90059 is arriving Friday (September 11). The Watts, California MC made a mini-documentary video explaining his skill development leading into his first LP in four years. Moreover, the five-minute film gets rare access to Jay’s Nickerson Gardens houses in Watts, a grid notorious for its gang activity.

Jay gives Aplus Filmz cameras a tour, and shows how both sides of his neighborhood meet in the center, not to clash, but to exchange information and participate in recreation. Other footage shows Jay in the studio with Ab-Soul, his “Numbers On The Boards” freestyle, and other moments of pointed lyricism from the first TDE artist.

Do you think 90059 will measure up to the expectations of longtime Jay Rock fans, looking for an album to showcase his unique perspective and merits?
