Jimmy Fallon Faces Off Against Terrence Howard. There’s Only 1 King on “Jimpire” (Video)

Over the last 6 months, Fox’s show Empire has become a runaway hit. The series, which stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, has transcended race and gender to become as embedded in the cultural zeitgeist as any show in years. Its over-the-top plot twists and outsized characters are only matched by the real-life personalities of the cast and crew. With all of its melodrama, it is the perfect target for a mega spoof by a comedian with equally grand ambitions. It’s no surprise that The Tonight Show‘s Jimmy Fallon steps up to the task.

Fallon’s 10-minute digital short Jimpire, is not just a campy sketch. It is an epic parody of the entire series, with Fallon and The Roots taking on parallel roles of several of Empire‘s key characters. Fallon puts the group and others through the paces as he decides who will be his successor and take over his “Jimpire.” Anyone who has seen even a single episode of the series will recognize the level of detail Fallon has employed in mocking the show. It’s all in good fun, though, as key members of Empire, like Howard and Henson, join in on the fun. In the end, there’s a cameo by perhaps the only person to have generated more buzz than Empire over the last 6 months. Take a look.
