Black Milk Produces A Strong Quick-strike For Ratking’s Wiki (Audio)

Over the last 15 years, Black Milk has worked with a total cross-section of Hip-Hop artists. From GZA to Bilal, Lloyd Banks to Proof, the Detroit, Michigan producer/MC has always found a way to fit in. One MC Black has found chemistry with is Danny Brown. The “Black and Brown” tandem placed Danny’s unique perspectives and outspoken raps against some soulful sounds that were aurally smooth and lyrically gritty.

That same sort of quality lives in Black’s latest work with Wiki. Wiki is part of Harlem, New York collective Ratking. He raps about a street-level NYC experience not often heard in the 2010s, especially with a youthful, in-the-now perspective. On “Hate Is Earned,” Heads can draw comparisons to Cage or Homeboy Sandman. Wiki has a slanted cadence, and a self-deprecating style that also shows bravado at the same time. Black Milk offers a simple, but effective guitar and drum loop. While the song is only 90 seconds long, it feels very much like that cassette-era mixtape moment that’s constantly worth rewinding back to.
