Jam Master Jay To Be Honored With Limited Edition Adidas Superstar

Run-D.M.C. helped bring the Adidas brand to the forefront of urban fashion. Even before 1986’s “My Adidas,” the Queens, New York trio embraced the German sneaker and apparel maker during the 1980s wave of Rap-endorsed sneaker fashion. That connection, which many say started from the late Jam Master Jay (a/k/a Jason Mizell) would ultimately lead to the Profile Records stars signing one of Rap’s first major endorsement deals, paying the group for what they transmitted as cool. Today, nearly 30 years later, Adidas is partnered with Kanye West.

More than 13 years after Jay’s tragic murder, Adidas is still involved with his specific legacy. The athletic apparel giant has announced, care of Sole Collector, that they will produce a limited edition Jam Master Jay-inspired Superstar sneaker in 2016. The white sneaker features special markings on the back, and the tongue. As it appears in the press photo, Adidas will also produce a corresponding t-shirt.

Previously, Adidas made several Run-D.M.C.-inspired Superstar models (posted at bottom). One in particular, was made in Jay’s honor, shortly after the iconic DJ/producer’s 2002 death:
