Sean Price’s Memory Continues to Inspire His Ruckdown Label Mates (Video)

Comprised of MCs P and Rim, Da Villins are members of the Ruckdown roster, the label imprint founded by the late Sean Price. Hailing from Brownsville, Brooklyn, Da Villins work extensively with producer PF Cuttin and are associates of sister label Duck Down, home to much of Sean Price’s solo material as well as his Heltah Skeltah work. Since Sean P’s passing in August, Da Villins have been some of the most prevalent artists in the movement to immortalize him through music, and in their latest video, their beloved mentor and friend plays a starring role.

“Willy Hutch” is filmed in several locations including in the home of Sean Price’s widow, Bernadette. Before the track begins, she can be heard telling the duo to keep doing what they doing, as Price would not have wanted it any other way. The moving footage is followed by a booming verse from Mic Tyson himself, giving the video an additional layer of tribute. Shortly thereafter, the two migrate to the location of Sean Price’s memorial mural in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where they pay tribute while delivering the high-caliber verses that led Sean P to sign them. Directed by DJ Akil (and co-directed by Sir Khemis the Genius), the video is a serious BK affair, and all done with few frills, allowing for the lyricism to stand alone. Check it out below, and pick up a copy of Da Villins’ 2014 mixtape, Broken Eggz. Stay tuned for their as-of-yet untitled forthcoming E.P.
