Black Thought & J.Period Are Performing A Live J Dilla Mixtape At Dilla Weekend (Audio)

As announced earlier this week, Black Thought and J.Period have been added to the 2016 J Dilla Weekend lineup. Taking place February 5-7, the Miami, Florida event will feature concert performances, panel discussions, a Discogs record swap meet, art exhibits, and much more.

With the addition of The Roots’ MC and the acclaimed DJ/producer, Jay Electronica, Bun B, Royce Da 5’9″, DJ Premier, Rapsody, 9th Wonder, Slum Village, D.I.T.C.’s A.G. & Diamond D, Chuck Strangers, A-F-R-O, Mr. Green, Kev Brown, and DJ Craze are also among those who will perform. The SoHo Studios multi-day event is hosted by Dilla’s mom, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey. Pre-sale ticket packages are available at the official J Dilla site.

For Black Thought and J’s set, the veteran MC/DJ tandem will be doing a special “Dilla Edition” of their Live Mixtape. This format, which the pair has done for more than five years, finds the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania MC and the Brooklyn, New York DJ covering Hip-Hop records by other artists with flare and improvisation in a way that only they can. In a video, Thought sits in front of his framed J Dilla photo portrait and explains how he and J.Period will take your special Dilla requests (see instructions below):

1. Follow @BlackThought and @JPeriodBK on Twitter, and Instagram (@BlackThought and @JPeriodBK) to Submit Requests
2. Tag #DillaEdition to make sure all submissions are received

If your track is chosen, we will perform it, shout you out and send you an exclusive copy of J.Period & Black Thought: The Live Mixtape.

For those looking to hear more of a Black Thought & J.Period live tape, jam out to the The Live Mixtape: The Illadelph Edition:

Heads can also watch the performance in living color. They also followed with The Live Mixtape: The James Brown Edition. Both tapes are available at J.Period’s website.
