De La Soul Are Performing Together to Honor J Dilla During His Tribute Weekend

In late December, the second annual J Dilla Weekend was announced. The Miami, Florida event will take place the weekend of February 5-7, and will be hosted by Dilla’s mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey. With Slum Village, Royce Da 5’9″, Rapsody & 9th Wonder, Blu & Exile, Chuck Strangers, A-F-R-O, and Mr. Green already as confirmed guests, additional headliners have been added.

De La Soul is now confirmed to be a Dilla Weekend headliner. The acclaimed trio of Posdnous, Dave, and Maseo worked extensively with Dilla between the mid-1990s and the time of the producer/MC’s 2006 death. The artists came together on Stakes Is High and The Grind Date. De La also worked with Slum Village on 2015’s YES, featuring a number of Dilla-produced tracks.

Also added to the lineup are two founders of Diggin’ In The Crates. Diamond D and A.G. both worked with Dilla in their lives. Diamond was an influence on the Donuts creator, and worked together on the 2005 release The Diamond Mine. Dilla would produce for Andre The Giant on his sophomore solo set, Get Dirty Radio, released the year of J’s death.

With Chuck Strangers already announced, it is now revealed that the Pro Era crew will perform. This unit, led by Joey Bada$$, is a Brooklyn, New York collective deeply influenced by Dilla and Slum Village. Alongside The Roots, Dilla was given a production credit on single “Like Me,” from 2015’s B4.Da.$$, Joey Bada$$’s acclaimed debut album.

Early-bird ticket packages are available to the multi-day event, which will also feature panels, art exhibits, and a record trading convention. The event is presented by New Era, and Ambrosia For Heads is proud to be a media sponsor.
