After years of speculation, the hit-making team of Lil Wayne, Mannie Fresh, and Juvenile finally showcases their new music. Mannie mentored both Weezy and Juvy at Cash Money Records in the late 1990s and early 2000s, before the Big Tymers member and label producer would exit to sign with Def Jam. Notably, the trio’s first collaboration in more than a dozen years comes at a time when Juvenile is once again signed to Cash Money, Lil Wayne is battling them in the legal system, and Mannie Fresh just announced that he’s inked a deal with Nas’ Mass Appeal Records. In the digital era, that isn’t stopping these Hot Boys and Big Tymers.

“Hate” reenters the trio in a different place than their previous repertoire of materialism, sex, and partying. This time, the New Orleans, Louisiana stars talk directly to the critics, judges, and haters. The song’s production, which uses Mannie’s Electronic kit is not the typical Bounce sound that the squad made together previously. Clearly, these artists are out to keep writing history, not just turn the pages back to it.

Lil Wayne is credited as “Tunechi” on the track. Previously, artists such as DJ Quik (“David Blake”), Ol’ Dirty Bastard (“Dirt McGirt”), and Noreaga (“N.O.R.E.”) have been able to record outside of contracts due to name changes.
