A$AP Ferg, Your Old Droog & Wiki Crush A Next Level Cypher With A Live Band (Video)

There are few things in Hip-Hop more exciting than a great cypher. Over the years, there have been some special ones, big and small. On a grander scale, Eminem, Black Thought & Mos Def rocking together comes to mind, as well as the TDE cypher where Kendrick Lamar went absolutely berserk over “Shook Ones, Pt. 2.” On the more underground level, there was the awe-inspiring lyrical display Jarren Benton, CyHi The Prynce and Joell Ortiz put on for the backpackers. Now, there’s a new cypher in town and it is taking the tradition to another level.

Complex has launched a cypher series titled “Complex City Cyphers.” They will travel to various cities to highlight local rappers and musicians. In the first installment, A$AP Ferg, Wiki and Your Old Droog spit verses accompanied by Grammy nominated jazz musician Christian Scott, Atunde Adjuah and several other players in Brooklyn, NY. The live band constructs different instrumentals for each MC, that are perfectly-tailored to their distinct cadences. They seamlessly transition from one to another and the result is each artist is showcased in his best light. Impeccably shot, the production is a new take on an established practice, and it is amazing.
