Rittz Waits Out the Storm for a Better, Brighter Day Outside His Window (Audio)

As a roster member of Tech N9ne’s Strange Music imprint, Rittz’s career as an MC has taken him far outside the confines of his native Gwinnett County, Georgia. The 35-year-old spitter has made a name for himself as a gifted performer whose rapid-fire delivery has led to much comparison to Twista. However, Rittz certainly stands on his own two with a unique sound and style, and he has never shied away from pushing back against the “White rapper” label. Collaborations with Big K.R.I.T., Royce 5’9″, Suga Free, and Yelawolf have rewarded him with some considerable attention in the form of major radio play, and with the promotional cycle for his upcoming third solo album well under way, he’s been on a recent tear lately.

This week he opens up the third single from next month’s Top of the Line, and it’s clear he’s got a well-framed perspective on life. “My Window” accompanies Rittz as he laments those days when everything seems to happen at once, and all of life’s downpours merge into a torrential torrent. From his vantage point, arguments with his love and his family seem endless, but he finds strength and a positive outlook where it seems there can’t be any. The track’s sonic detour towards the end makes for an intriguing finish, and by the time it’s over, forlorness shape-shifts into something else entirely.

“My Window” follows Top of the Line‘s lead single “Ghost Story” and its follow-up, the Devin the Dude and MJG-assisted “Propane.”
