Royce 5’9″, Pusha T & Rick Ross Show That Each Has Many Layers As An MC (Audio)

With only 11 days until the release of his solo album Layers, Detroit’s Royce 5’9″ is in the home stretch of a promotional undertaking that has resulted in more than enough work to prove that one need not be the next hottest thing to put forth inspiring and lyrically punishing content. With nearly 15 years under his belt as a solo artist, Royce may very well be entering the apex of his career with his April 15 release, reminding us that when it comes to lyrical ability, there are few who can go toe-to-toe. Toting with him his battle rap background and classic material with PRhyme and Slaughterhouse, the 38-year-old has already released a handful of singles, videos and a free E.P. this year alone.

Thus far, he has dropped “Tabernacle,” “Dead President Heads,” “Which Is Cool,” “Savages,” and “Rap On Steroids” (featuring Black Thought) and as if those tracks weren’t enough to get Heads excited for the forthcoming album, today Royce has unleashed a serious beast with help from Pusha T and Rick Ross. The album’s title track – produced by Mr. Porter – certainly lives up to its name, with the three MCs deftly delivering their unique styles for a layering of dope material. Featuring a sample of a speech made by motivational speaker Brother Marcus (“a slave is one whose power and authority is ruled over by another and whose sphere of freedom is limited”), “Layers” is a three-course meal in collaboration which will leave you hungry for more.
