Upon 50 Cent’s meteoric rise in Rap music during the early 2000s, he made a few enemies, quickly. Part of the G-Unit general’s persona was how he spoke so freely, and unafraid about artists. At the time, the biggest foes to 50 Cent was Ja Rule, Irv Gotti, and their Murder Inc. label. While G-Unit would rope in Dr. Dre, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, and others into the foray, Ja Rule sided with artists such as Made Men and Rap-A-Lot Records as his strategic alliance. At the time, Z-Ro was the next star in development at J. Prince’s Houston, Texas imprint. On records like Scarface’s controversial “Snitch Nigga,” the later Screwed Up Click artist threw shots at the Queens, New York rapper, and persisted through much of the 2000s.

Things sure have changed.

In 2016, with beef put to bed a year ago, Z-Ro now uses Fif’ for inspiration. On new single “Women Men,” Ro reworks breakthrough 50 Cent single “Many Men” to set the stage for his own moment of truth. In the verses, Ro now calls out former label Rap-A-Lot Records for paltry advances, and having to scramble to make a living while he was booming on the charts. From family to ex-friends, this is one H-Town vet that’s knocking mics down.
