De La Soul Spring Into Action With A Jam Designed To Make You Move (Audio)

Just over twenty five years ago, De La Soul’s sophomore album included lead single “A Roller Skating Jam Called Saturdays.” Produced by Prince Paul, the Tommy Boy/Warner Bros. Records single found the Long Island, New York trio (and guest Q-Tip, of A Tribe Called Quest) making an upbeat ode to weekend party-going, and feel-good vibes. The Native Tongues proved early that they could rock mind and body on the same, cohesive albums.

Six weeks away from their first official album in a dozen years (August 26’s …And The Anonymous Nobody), De La Soul makes a new party cut in 2016. “Action!” may be attached to the Angry Birds franchise as a soundtrack song, but the record stands alone as Posdnuos, Dave, and Maseo waxing their ability to go places other Hip-Hop acts (especially 28 year vets) cannot.

20 Years Later, De La Soul Credit Dave For Their Shift In Sound On Stakes Is High

The single makes no bones about its Dance elements. Pos’ and Dave keep their flows in the pocket, while DJs can spin this joint to make bodies hit the dance floor. For gamers, it may move thumbs in the meantime.
