Stro Runs Through 7 Minutes Of Classic Beats In 1 Of The Year’s Best Freestyles (Video)

Stro (f/k/a The Astronomical Kid) has had a quieter 2016 than other years. However, the Brooklyn, New Yorker is just ramping up, and showing that his skills have refined. Appearing on the most recent episode of Statik Selektah’s ShowOff Radio show, Stro asks if he can go off the top of the dome, and that’s exactly what he does.

Statik drops the needle on tracks by A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Nas, KRS-One, Mobb Deep, and others. Stro just locks in, in a zone that’s all his own, with endless rhymes. Most of it appears to be off the top, as the onetime Sha Stimuli protege mentions people in the room, sponsors, and more. He manages to impress those around him with some surges of brilliant wordplay (see the Shaggy/Bombastic reference). In the free’, Stro also takes a jab at Macklemore than gets a reaction in the room.

In this freestyle, Astro also answers a question he must hear a lot—surrounding his album. His answer sets him apart from most MCs.
