DJ Jazzy Jeff & Rhymefest Have A Clear Message For Mr. Officer (Audio)

Producer and turntablist DJ Jazzy Jeff and fellow Grammy Award winner Rhymefest appear to have created a group, Jeff n Fess. The Philadelphia and Chicago link made its debut (and scratched at its band name) nearly a decade ago on The Return Of Magnificent, Jeff’s LP.

2016 headlines and tragic trends have brought the pair back together, with Eric Roberson, the same singer who made a stellar collaborative album with Phonte earlier this year. “Mr. Officer” speaks directly to the law enforcers, and asks them solemnly to stop profiling, shooting unarmed Black people, and then blaming society at large as a defense. Roberson’s chorus sets the tone, while ‘Fest speaks up with frustration about living in fear of an institution that his tax dollars fund. Xzibit also makes a quick cameo on the song.
