Tech N9ne & Smoke DZA Ignite A Cypher On A Fresh Pete Rock Beat (Video)

In less than two weeks, the unit of Smoke DZA & Pete Rock, as well as Tech N9ne will release albums, respectively. As Smoke has become a force to be reckoned with in 2010s independent Hip-Hop, Tech may be the standing giant of that field—given his commercial success and cult following. Appearing on Sway In The Morning, DZA gives Tech his props for all that the 20-year veteran has accomplished. With Pete Rock behind the laptop, Sway asks for something new from the legendary producer/DJ (who also raps) for the two guest rappers.

Pete presses play on a beat that could be a backbone on any MC’s album. There, Tech and DZA get busy with several back-and-forth freestyles that mesh really well together. Things kick in around 2:45 in the video.

DZA raps with finesse about his lavish lifestyle, and charms with the women. The signature delivery (complete) with ad-libs is fully in tact. The Strange Music co-founder bangs on wax, while explaining his place in Missouri and beyond. He ends his first verse with a gritty punchline about O.G. Ron C. Smoke returns with some herb-inspired raps, maintaining that his verses are non-fiction. Then, Ninna’ plays clean-up. “Freeze / At ease / Whoever said that Techy ain’t the shizzy is a buster-deluxe with cheese,” spits Tech. Moments later, he accelerates his flow to chopping, and spits the kind of raps that have made him a DIY superstar.
