Bell Biv DeVoe Show They’re Still Way Betta Than The Rest (Audio)

It is just one week away from Bell Biv DeVoe’s first album in 15 years. Three Stripes (January 27) is a testament to B.B.D.’s staying power. Even if Ricky Bell, Michael Bivens, and Ronnie DeVoe have been slow on the album releases (there was an eight year hiatus between Hootie Mack and BBD), they remain top-notch performers, who can draw crowds worldwide.

Following the Erick Sermon-produced “Run,” Bell Biv DeVoe have another reminder to the masses that they are everlasting. “I’m Betta” is straightforward braggadocious R&B. The trio hops on a beat (produced by Naughty By Nature’s Kay Gee) that calls back to the Biz Markie “Pickin’ Boogers” track and produces something that sticks for 2017. The classic sample formula is certainly working (after their Herb Alpert move on “Run”) for an outfit that was one of the first to mesh R&B with a Hip-Hop edge.
