Outkast Affiliate Mr. DJ Makes A Funky Beat In Stankonia Using Dilla’s Donuts (Video)

Outkast Heads know Mr. DJ. Not only is the Georgia veteran the mixmaster on stage when Andre 3000 and Big Boi do their rare shows, he’s been with the group for more than 20 years. Mr. DJ is also the third member of Earthtone III (fka Earthtone Ideas), the production group of the group, who would make hits such as “Elevators,” “B.O.B.,” and “Ms. Jackson.” On his own, DJ made both volumes of “Da Art Of Storytelling.” With that rich pedigree in tact, he plays “Rhythm Roulette” with Mass Appeal, and hooks a beat up in Stankonia Studios.

On his person Mr. DJ leaves Atlanta, Georgia’s Moops Music with Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall, J Dilla’s Donuts, and Stones Throw Records compilation The Buzz (by Madlib, MED, Blu, and Mayer Hawthorne, etc.). Stones Throw, Dilla fans, and Underground Hip-Hop Heads may take special interest as the accomplished juggernaut producer reworks some sacred sounds.

20 Years Later, OutKast’s ATLiens Is A Masterpiece Of Space & Time

Hard drums drive the way, as Mr. DJ’s resulting beat knocks. More than just sampling, he triggers the gathered elements while sitting at the keyboard and throwing some of his own Funk on top.
