Twelvyy Steps To The Front Of A$AP Mob And Takes His Shot (Video)

UPDATE: A$AP Twelvyy has released the visual to “Strapped.” The artful visual captures the New York MC in his element as he tells his story. Old A$AP Mob footage shows Ferg, the late Yams, and more as the crew’s 2010 rise is documented. Twelvyy looks to stand apart, and his major label project’s video proves that he is far from an overnight sensation. This is a spitter who’s been about paying dues:

ORIGINAL JULY 7 POST: One of A$AP Mob’s less active members is about to step into the limelight. To date, A$AP Twelvyy has performed most of his catalog alongside various members of his clique (A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Ant, etc.), or as a featured guest on songs by artists like Smoke DZA, Statik Selektah and Flatbush ZOMBiES. That is about to change, however, as he prepares to drop his solo debut.

In anticipation, Twelvyy releases his first single, an ode to New York City street life titled “Strapped.” In fact, the Harlem-bred, Bronx-raised rapper keeps it unequivocally New York over a soulful, sample-driven beat (of Sampha’s “Beneath The Tree”) provided by A$AP P on the Boards. Reportedly a cousin of legendary D.I.T.C. producer and hit-maker Buckwild, as claimed in a 2013 Noisey interview, Twelvyy seems more invested in a recognizable New York sound than some of his A$AP peers.

No release date or name has been provided for his upcoming project, but if “Strapped” is any indication, it will highlight some of the relative newcomer’s roots. “‘Strapped'” was a labor of love. That’s a movie I’ve been starring in my whole life,” said Twelvyy about the single. “It’s only right I begin this next chapter with the superhero origin story.”
