Killah Priest Attacks ’70s Breakbeats On A Mixtape Featuring Ghostface & Raekwon (Audio)

The whole Wu-Tang Clan family has a deep respect for Hip-Hop’s earliest days. RZA’s production, and the swarm’s rhyme routines often call back to the park-jams and pioneering days of the culture. That’s true of Killah Priest, the former breakout star of Sunz Of Man and a Brooklyn, New York MC who was very nearly down with the original nine.

K.P. just released Don’t Sit On The Speakers, Vol. 1, a mixtape he made with Wu-Tang Elements producer/turntablist 4th Disciple. 4th is who laid the track for Killah’s breakout moment, 1995’s “B.I.B.L.E.” on GZA’s platinum Liquid Swords LP. As a founding member of Killarmy, 4th would also lace Method Man’s “Judgement Day.” With a knack for ’70s break-beats, Disco, and park-jam classics, 4th chops them up, while Killah Priest delivers his trademark knowledge, vocabulary, and style. Raekwon appears, as does Ghostface Killah. Early 2016 G.F.K. cut “Disco Airlines” lands on this 15-track stylized project.

Breaks include ’70s highlights from Isaac Hayes, Cerrone, and Eastside Connection. This is exactly the sort of flavor Heads would have heard back in the day.

As an added note, without Canibus’ involvement, Killah Priest, Kurupt, and Ras Kass recently revived the HRSMN (aka the 4 Horsemen) on song “Street Fighter.”
