Rapsody Takes Her Grammy-Nominated Song Out For A Night On The Town (Video)

Forget the club. In the expertly produced video, for Rapsody’s “Sassy,” the North Carolina MC and company ghost ride a beautifully restored whip to a hopping house party before closing the night at a jam-packed diner.

If anyone has the right to celebrate, it’s Rapsody. She’s had a phenomenal year. Her sophomore LP, Laila’s Wisdom is up for two Grammy Awards. One for “Best Rap Album,” and this “Sassy” single is nominated for “Best Rap Song.”

The video is given the Grammy treatment as well. Directed by Mac Grant and Chad Tennies, the brilliant lighting, mid-’70s custom Pontiac drop-top, snazzy, ‘90s-inspired wardrobes and dynamic backdrops are equal parts engaging and reminiscent. Although the narrative isn’t explicitly deep, it is inherently fun, tailor-made to fit the vibe set out by Rapsody’s energetic track.

Laila’s Wisdom features Anderson .Paak, Black Thought, GQ, BJ The Chicago Kid, Busta Rhymes, and Kendrick Lamar, and boasts production from the Soul Council of 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Nottz, Eric G. (who did “Sassy”), and Ka$h Don’t Make Beats.

Rapsody Has All The Power In A Stunning New Video

For those with a keen eye, look out for Big K.R.I.T.’s cameo.

Laila’s Wisdom is part of Ambrosia For Heads’ Best 15 Rap Albums Of 2017 list.
