Kanye West Confirms That Watch The Throne 2 Is Coming Soon
Seven years and one month ago, JAY-Z and Kanye West released their joint album Watch The Throne. The Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam Records release arrived at a time when the mentor and onetime pupil were at the top of the Rap game. The 2011 release scored Jay and ‘Ye seven Grammy nominations, a #1 chart position, and a platinum certification.
In the seven years since Watch The Throne, Jay and Kanye’s relationship has significantly changed. In late 2016, just before a series of events that would eventually end in West’s hospitalization, the superstar whose career accelerated alongside Jay began criticizing his mentor publicly. In 2017, JAY-Z addressed the pair’s differences on 4:44. Meanwhile, there were reports that the two Watch The Throne collaborators may be suing one another after a dispute surrounding Tidal and breach of contract.
Tonight (September 8), Kanye West announced that a Watch The Throne 2 is arriving soon. The MC/producer did not mention Jay’s name or elaborate at this time.
In April, ‘Ye announced plans to release a solo album, as well as LPs by Nas, Pusha-T, Teyana Taylor, and a collaborative project with Kid Cudi. This summer, West delivered on all of those reports. His own album, ‘ye, reached #1 in June. Just over two weeks later, Beyoncé and JAY-Z released EVERYTHING IS LOVE (as The Carters). That effort peaked at #2.
In a busy year for ‘Ye and Jay, the throne may be restored.
