When the year ends, one of the must-buy albums of 2013 will likely still be Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. The French production/DJ duo has been on my radar since MTV’s short-lived “12 Angry Viewers” days (I also remember first seeing Eminem that way). However, thanks to J Dilla and Kanye West, Daft Punk’s Hip-Hop presence continues to grow. On this year’s album, that early House/Disco sound is very much alive, and with heavy involvement from N*E*R*D/The Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams, and Chic’s Nile Rodgers. This is some time-travelin’ without the Delorean, as the quartet follows up “Get Lucky” with a sequel-minded video. Music is great when you “lose yourself to dance.” Pharrell is runnin’ thangs in nearly every genre in 2013. Salute!
