Slim Thug – Coming Down (Every Town) ft Big K.R.I.T., Z-Ro & Kirko Bangz
Outside of Geto Boys and UGK, I have always used Slim Thug as an illustration to what makes Houston Hip-Hop so unique, and so great. Thugga’s not always big on deep thought, but his boisterous vocals, smooth style and regional cadence have accented some truly great music over the last decade. Since the days of “3 Kings,” Slim has also been truly great at assembling a sticking collaboration. “Coming Down (Every Town)” is no exception. Here, Thugga teams with another great H-Town vet, Z-Ro—who sings his verse with style. Both of these MC’s have deliveries, that even at 33 1/3 RPM, cater to a Chopped & Screwed sound. Then the Boss Hogg brings in his Live From The Underground Tour partner Big K.R.I.T., who while repping the Crooked Letta State, has always had a strong influence from the Lone Star sound. Premiering with Screw Music O.G. DJ Mr. Rogers, this song is produced by Mr. Lee. While Slim Thug has worked with Dr. Dre, Jim Jonsin, and Pharrell Williams (people forget he was a first-wave Star Trak artist), I always think the cuts with Lee are Thugga’s best. This is smoothness that bangs in the automobile, with or without a trunk wavin’ and bowling-ball paint.
