Preservation is a producer/DJ closely associated with Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def. The touring-mate of the former Rawkus Records standout offered up The REcstatic earlier this year, a fully-remixed version of Mos’ 2009 Downtown Records album (which along with Madlib and Oh No, Preservation produced). After doing that acclaimed re-working this year, he steps to one of his biggest influences: Barry White.

Barry White and Preservation share today (September 12) as a birthday. The late leader of the Love Unlimited Orchesta would have been 69 years old today. Sadly, we lost the Texas native back in 2004. Preservation made SePtember 1200, also inspired by his SP-1200 sampling drum machine’s 10 seconds of time. The 30-minute mixtape/free album strictly adheres to that format.

White’s music was famously sampled by the likes of Nas, Black Moon, and even the Quad City DJs, leaving an immortal impact on Hip-Hop.
